Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons are dental specialist who have had a minimum
of 4 years post dental school training to assist patients with their
surgical needs. They are proficient at assisting their dental colleges with
a number of oral surgical conditions. These include treatment of impacted
wisdom teeth, decayed or fractured teeth, infections, soft tissue or bony
diseases, TMJ problems as well as implant therapy. Because of their
extensive training and experience, the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon can
treat the patient's condition carefully and efficiently. This helps to
minimize the patient's pain while minimizing complications related to their
treatment.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons have been pioneers in the arena of outpatient anesthesia. Their training is unique compared to most medical professions. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, in addition to their training in outpatient anesthesia, are required to have training in hospital based general anesthesia administration. This training encompasses 6 - 12 months of performing general anesthesia in a hospital operating room setting. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons are required to undergo an intensive office inspection before being allowed to perform outpatient anesthesia. This inspection is repeated every 5 years. Our office staff at Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Specialists are trained and equipped to assist in any medical emergency. Our Doctors are also ACLS (advanced cardiac life support) certified and equipped to provide our patients with any anesthesia necessary to make their appointment comfortable.
